GPS Innovation Alliance launched
A US group has formed the GPS Innovation Alliance - dedicated to furthering GPS innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.
Alliance members, citing the ever increasing importance of GPS to global economy and infrastructure, are drawn from a wide variety of fields and businesses reliant on GPS - including manufacturing, aviation, agriculture, construction, transport, emergency response, surveying and mapping.
Also involved are organisations representing consumers who depend on GPS for outdoor activities, as well as in the likes of smartphones and tablets.
The Alliance has its HQ in Washington DC and is building on the heritage and extensive expertise of the US GPS Industry Council (USGIC), which was formed in 1991 to promote commercial applications of GPS and expand global markets whilst safeguarding its military advantages.
Two long-term members of the USGIC - NovAtel Inc and Topcon Positioning Systems - join John Deere, Garmin and Trimble as founding members of the Alliance.
Affiliate members include the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) and the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM).
The GPS Innovation Alliance was launched on 13 February with a reception on Capitol Hill. The website can be viewed below . .
