Midday Shipping Forecast - Westerglen Transmitter Temporary switch off
Due to maintenance work the Westerglen Transmitter will be temporarily switched off between 21st and 28th July.
The BBC Radio 4 have recently advised the MCA that much needed maintenance work on the Westerglen transmitter in Scotland will be taking place between 21st and 28th July.
The engineers need to grease the stays which will require the BBC to switch off the Westerglen transmitter, resulting in the Midday Shipping Forecast being lost on those days from this transmitter. It is only the Westerglen transmitter that is being switched off during this period.
The 1201 Shipping Forecast will still be broadcast by BBC Radio 4 during this period and they have confirmed that it will be still available on the Droitwich and Burghead transmitters. BBC Radio 4 hope that mariners who are served by Westerglen may still be able to hear Radio 4 Long Wave - albeit less clearly - from the other two transmitters but they are unable to make any guarantees.
As in the past, BBC Radio 4 will trail this in the days leading up to the switch off and refer their audience to the BBC website but fellow mariners forewarned is forearmed.
The Shipping Forecast has been running on BBC Radio in one form or another since 1921.
