Prof Vidal Ashkenazi awarded OBE
The New Year Honours List has seen Vidal become an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for 'Services to Science'.
Prof Ashkenazi is Founding Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nottingham Scientific Ltd. He is a Fellow of both our Institute and the Royal Academy of Engineering and was awarded the RIN Gold Medal in 2008.
He was the founding director of what is now one of the leading space geodesy research institutes in Europe and has supervised around 50 doctoral (PhD) students, many of whom now occupy senior positions in universities and industry around the world.
He has also acted as a consultant to a large number of government and commercial organisations around the world, has published several hundred papers and has been invited to give keynote lectures in many international conferences and symposia. He has made significant contributions to many of our Institute events.
Vidal Ashkenazi received a BSc in civil engineering and MSc in geodesy from the Israel Institute of Technology followed by doctorates in philosophy and physical science from Oxford University.
