Paul's funeral took place on 27 January - a fitting farewell.
St Peter and Paul Church in Blockley was expecting around 80 attendees at Paul Hickley's funeral on 27 January . . but closer to 180 turned up at the memorable packed-out event.
The first eulogy came from our own Sqn Ldr John Cairns, who had known Paul on Vulcans and, within the General Aviation Navigation Group, was currently working with him on a handful of projects. John covered Paul's highly-specialised and demanding service life as well as his later high-level teaching in civil aviation.
AVM Mike Adams followed with readings from Paul's recent book 'Holding to the Heavens: the History of Sixty Squadron RAF 1916-2016' - a fitting tribute to an accomplished author.
After further readings, a final eulogy from Paul's wife and children was given by son-in-law, David Clarkson - a reminder that life is not all about professional work . . and the cause of many a lump-in-throat.
After interment, a reception at the Manor House Hotel, Moreton-in-Marsh, saw frenetic reunions of the large number of friends who represented Paul's lifetime family.
This was a sad day, but one that celebrated the life of a remarkable aviator and member of our Institute appropriately. Once again, we pass our condolences to Paul's wife, Anthea, and family.
