Each category of membership has its own range of benefits, tailored to different needs.

Individual Membership

This has a core benefits package, including:

  • Membership of any or all Special Interest Groups, each one dedicated to debate, networking, and developing influence in a particular field of navigation.
  • Access to a wide range of local or specialised events, competitions, seminars etc, often free, but always at a reduced rate.
  • Access to a wide range of national events and conferences run by the RIN at a reduced rate.
  • Access to some other national events including Boat and Flying shows at specially-negotiated RIN-Member rates.
  • Subscription to the world-renowned Journal of Navigation, showcasing the latest scientific research in all navigation fields - four issues per year in full colour.
  • Subscription to the Institute's popular bimonthly magazine, Navigation News, including exclusive features covering the whole spectrum of navigation topics.
  • Participation in annual RIN competitions at reduced rates.
  • Access to the Members' Area on this website, which includes:

Corporate/Small Corporate Members

These classes of Membership have additional benefits, including:

  • Free delegate places at RIN events, conferences and seminars.
  • And a 10% discount on all advertising in Navigation News and on the website.
  • Coming Soon - the ability to advertise job vacancies on the webstie.

Associate Members

These get all the Individual Member benefits, except they don't receiver the Journal of Navigation, can join only one Special Interest Group, and may not vote or hold office within the RIN.

Junior Associates

These Members have similar restrictions to Associate Members, but they also may not serve on the RIN's committees.

Student Members

These are Individual Members who may not vote, hold office or use the 'MRIN' letters after their name.

AFRINs

These Members on the other hand get all the Individual Member benefits, and get to use the 'AFRIN' letters after their name.

Afffiliated Colleges or Universties

  • Get up to 10 full Student Memberships, plus one free Individual Membership for the staff organiser.
  • On leaving, every Student Member in an Affiliated College gets a year's free Guest Membership in their own right.
  • Coming Soon - the ability to advertise courses on the website.

Affiliated Clubs

These get the equivalent of three Individual Memberships.
