Weather and Sailing 2018 is coming to London. Do not miss this joint Royal Institute of Navigation and Royal Meteorological Society one-day seminar.
Weather and Sailing 2018, the increasingly popular one-day Seminar is coming to London on Saturday 6th October 2018.
Are you a leisure yachtsman, amateur meteorologist or professional from the yachting or meteorological communities?
Want to learn more about the powerful relationship between weather and sailing?
Need some extra knowledge about how technology can help improve both safety and performance?
Then Weather & Sailing 2018 is an event you won’t want to miss!
Weather and Sailing 2018, organized by The Royal Institute of Navigation Small Craft Group and The Royal Meteorological Society, in conjunction with Royal Museums Greenwich, will be held at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich.
The last joint seminar in 2016, held at the Met Office HQ in Exeter, proved highly popular. Make sure you put the date in your diary and don’t forget to register early, as this is sure to be a sold out event and places are limited.
Technology continues to come along in leaps and bounds, driven by the need for relevant information to be made easily available in an accessible format 24/7, whilst on the move. The ever-growing iPad and smart phone market, with Apps available at little or no cost, has completely revolutionised how data can be accessed and updated, even whilst afloat.
Before, during and after the Seminar, there will be time for delegates to network with each other, as well as with the speakers and organisers.
Speakers are selected for their particular knowledge and experience in various aspects of the core topics of Navigation and Meteorology and then invited to speak on a topic that will be of interest to a broadly-based audience, comprising leisure yachtsmen, amateur meteorologists and professionals from both the yachting and meteorological fraternity. Speakers currently include:
Jim Galvin - Senior Operational Meteorologist, Met Office
Tom Cunliffe - Sailor, author and yachting journalist
Christian Dumard - Professional Sailor, Great Circle
Sam Matson - Professional Sailor, Volvo Ocean Race
Richard Falk - Director of Training and Qualifications, Royal Yachting Association
Robert McCabe - Director of Operations & Navigation Services, Irish Lights
Mervyn Wheatley - Yachtsman, Royal Western Yacht Club
