Costa Concordia What should we learn?

Monday 4 th March 2019 1730 for 1815 onboard HQS Wellington

Captain Lloyd's interest in the wrecking of the cruise ship Costa Concordia off Giglio in 2012, with the loss of 32 lives, led him to produce an extensive paper on the incident, drawing on studies of the subsequent inquiry and trial with input from universities and witnesses.

This accident has presented the marine industry with an opportunity to consider the consequences of what could have been the greatest marine disaster in peacetime history. Many lessons have yet to be fully considered. This lecture will present a new perspective on the affair from those who were directly involved for your consideration.

The Captain alone has suffered imprisonment following the prosecution. This lecture will allow you to consider whether this was the right outcome. You will be the jury and will be invited to reach your own verdict after what promises to be an interesting evening. The Wardroom Bar will of course be open before and afterwards.

Admission FREE. HQS WELLINGTON (020 7836 8179) is berthed at Victoria Embankment, near Temple tube.
