An Evening with author David Barrie FRIN CBE

David is the author of two critically-acclaimed books about navigation. His first, 'Sextant', recalls the life-changing experience of learning to navigate by the sun and stars while sailing across the Atlantic when he was 19 years old. It celebrates the vital role of celestial navigation in the exploration and mapping of the world’s oceans before the coming of GPS. His latest, 'Incredible Journeys', reveals how animals - large and small - navigate their worlds. It was named Nature Book of the Year by The Sunday Times in 2019.

David will talk about his own experiences as a navigator, the astonishing variety of ways in which animals - from ants and beetles to birds, fish and reptiles - find their way around, and reflect on the implications of our own increasing reliance on electronic navigation tools. His talk will be followed by a Q&A session.

David is also a member of the Royal Cruising Club and a former member of the RLYC. There will be an opportunity to purchase one of David’s books at the event.
There is a pay-and-display car park outside the club. Guests are welcome. An Informal supper will be available after the talk - please pay at the bar prior to the talk. Please register by 5th April via the button above, and indicate if you want to have supper at the club.
