A Time at Sea with British Antarctic SurveyCaptain Robin Plumley MBE will give a presentation on his recollections of working in the Antarctic from 1976 to 1992; which was before satellite navigation was introduced! He is a member of the Warsash Association and trained as a cadet, and on other courses at Warsash Maritime Centre. He also holds the Polar Medal, awarded in 1993 when he was Chief Officer of RRS Sir James Clark Ross. He is a Freeman of the City of London; A Freeman & Liveryman of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners; and a committee member (Boatsteerer & Past Captain) of the “Cachalots” (The Southampton Master Mariners Club) Robin’s Biography: 1972-76 Apprentice Navigation Cadet with British & Commonwealth Shipping; 1976-92 British Antarctic Survey (last 8 years as Chief Officer) 1992-2007 Research Vessel Services (Master); 2007-2015 National Oceanography Centre (Research Ship Manager); 2015-2020 Hunthouse Marine Ltd (Specialist Marine Services) There are several public car parks close to the venue; see www.southampton.gov.uk).
