About the talk

This talk will be about wayfinding, waylosing and human navigation behaviours in the outdoors in Norway. Ole will share his doctoral research about navigation preferences and behaviours and specifically how people recover from being temporarily lost. His personal stories of wayfinding in Norway will highlight the importance of the outdoors in Norwegian society, culture and history.

About the speaker

Ole Edward Wattne is Assistant Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in the Faculty of Architecture and Design. He has a background in information and graphic design and has been teaching the design of wayfinding systems (for information see IDG3950 - Wayfinding Systems) to undergraduate and post-graduate students for 15 years. His PhD title is ‘Wayfinding in the outdoors: user behaviours, preferences, unique features and overlaps with wayfinding in other contexts.’ Ole is a recreational outdoor adventurer, regularly mountain biking and rambling in the summer season, and skiing and fat-biking in the winter from his home in Lillehammer, Norway.
