Autumnal astronomical equinox

In astronomical terms, autumn starts at the autumnal equinox - this year at 0245 UTC on 23 September.

The Sun will continue its southerly passage until the winter solstice, when its sub-point will be at ~23º26’S, at 2223 UTC on 21 December. It will return to the northern hemisphere at the vernal, or spring, equinox at 2158 UTC on 20 March 2019.

Europe will drop Summertime on the last Sunday in October - this year on 28 October; clocks change at 0100 UTC.
