The Institute of Navigation (ION) is a professional, scientific not-for-profit organization advancing positioning, navigation and timing. ION publishes NAVIGATION: Journal of the Institute of Navigation, the leading peer-reviewed and indexed scientific journal publishing articles on all areas related to the science, engineering and art of Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT).
ION’s international membership includes individuals and organizations in the field of positioning, navigation and timing. Members come from private industry, academia and government agencies.
The Institute of Navigation hosts the largest and most comprehensive technical database of research papers published in NAVIGATION and ION published conference proceedings. The database contains more than 19,000 papers.
ION hosts technical conference including the annual ION GNSS+ Meeting (Sponsored by the ION Satellite Division) Joint Navigation Conference (Sponsored by the ION Military Division), the International Technical Meeting (ITM) co-located with the Precise Time and Time Interval Meeting (PTTI), Pacific PNT (biennial focused on the Pacific Rim and IEEE/ION Position Location and Navigation Symposium (PLANS).
Telespazio UK based in Luton, is part of Telespazio, a joint-venture between Leonardo and Thales and is headquartered in Rome. Telespazio is at the forefront in many sectors: from the design and development of space systems to the management of launch services and satellites in-orbit control, from Earth observation services to communications, from navigation and satellite tracking to scientific programs. Telespazio is involved in the majority of European Space Agency programs, including space exploration, Earth observation, satellite navigation, launchers and human space flight.
The Navigation group at Telespazio UK has evolved over a number of years to build and expand three key areas of interest in the navigation domain:
Fraunhofer Centre for Applied Photonics (Fh-CAP) is part of Fraunhofer UK, a not-for-profit research and technology organisation (RTO) which offers industry professional development services. Photonics is an enabling component of quantum technology which in turn has applications in position, navigation, and timing. Fh-CAP has been a delivery partner in a significant number of industry led projects within the UK Quantum Technologies Programme. Typically, these projects develop proof of concept systems for demonstration and field testing and ultimately commercial products.
Specifically, Fh-CAP has delivered key systems to projects developing proof of concept demonstrators for quantum inertial navigation as well as timing distribution and secure communications.
Fh-CAP can work with industry via government co-funded projects or directly via contracts. We do not commercialise ourselves and seek to enable our partners to commercialise project outcomes.
Fraunhofer UK, located in Glasgow, is a legally independent affiliate of the Fraunhofer Society, Europe’s leading independent research organisation.
