Katie McCabe, a 14-year-old from Devon, has completed her trip in just over 50 days.
She set off from Exmouth in her 8-metre wooden boat ‘Falanda’ on 30 June. She sailed anti-clockwise, passing through or across the Solent, Thames, Firth of Forth, Caledonian Canal, Irish Sea, Lands End and the Lizard and back to Topsham. The journey covered 1,600 nautical miles.
Katie carried out the exploit with her father sailing about 5 miles behind her - but she sailed single-handedly for the entire trip.
She has also raised over £14,000 for the charity Sea Shepherd UK, which works to protect marine wildlife throughout the World. Her original target was £6,000.
We congratulate Katie on her achievement and wish her all the best for future exploits which she has in mind.
