The Institute’s Fly/Sail weekend was a memorable one in beautiful weather.
Around 20 members and guests shared 4 aircraft and 4 boats – and a car or 2 - to have the best-fun weekend of the year around the Solent and Isle of Wight. Aircraft flew into Lee-on-Solent airfield on Saturday morning and, after a light lunch at the most welcoming club-house, took the sailors flying over the Isle and along the Solent coastline.
Following transport to the Hornet Services Sailing Club, pre-prandial drinks and nibbles accompanied excited war-stories on board one of the visiting craft – a beautiful 42-ft motorboat - before dinner in the historical Hornet Clubhouse. War stories continued until all had bunked-down in the visiting boats.
Sunday saw the turn of the sailors to show fliers the ropes, with all sailing – actually, motoring . . there was no wind - across the Solent to the Royal Victoria Yacht Club, Fishbourne, for an excellent all-you-can-eat late breakfast overlooking the Solent. Then an instructional sail back to Hornet, with just a light breeze, before all dispersing homeward.
Everyone left with huge smiles, vowing to do it all again next year . . surely the best fun weekend of the year . .
