We are sad to report the passing of Capt James Martin FRIN at the age of 86.
James, from Trinidad and Tobago, spent many years at sea in dry-cargo ships, bulk carriers and tankers before commanding passenger and cargo vessels for a further 10 years.
After then serving in Maritime Administration in Jamaica, he joined the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), London, as Head of the Africa/Caribbean Section of the Technical Co-operation Division and was soon promoted to Senior Deputy Director of that Division, with responsibility for providing technical assistance in maritime transport to developing countries.
He held BA and MA degrees in International Relations and Maritime Law and, as well as being a Fellow of our Institute, held fellowship of the Nautical Institute and other transport- and business-orientated institutes.
We pass our deepest condolences to James’ wife, 5 children and their families.
