26 October 2020   (0 Comments)

GLONASS-K 15L satellite was launched from Plesetsk at 2209 Moscow time (1909 UTC) on 25 October 2020.

The Russian military have reported that the 3-stage launch was successful. The launch of this third updated ‘K’ satellite had been scheduled for March 2020 but had been delayed by a series of technical issues.

GLONASS comprises 24 operational spacecraft in 3 circular medium earth orbits (MEO) at ~19,100 km (~11,900 miles) inclined at 64.8º. In addition to 24 satellites currently operational, there is an additional one in each of flight test, maintenance and spare - now joined by 15L in the commissioning phase.
